Plan the route and fuel reserve for slow traffic rather than normal cruise speed. Expect congestion near passes, bridges, marinas and popular anchorages. Review temporary safety zones or local law-enforcement instructions, keep clear of marked restricted water and never anchor in a navigation channel.
Choose an anchoring location based on depth, swing room and the forecast—not only the view. Set the anchor securely, maintain a lookout and expect large wakes when the crowd begins moving.
