Choosing the right boat for Mobile Bay

The right boat starts with how you plan to use it. Mobile Bay, the rivers, coastal bays and nearshore Gulf each reward a different balance of draft, ride, range and deck space.

Start with your normal day

Be realistic about passenger count, fishing style, storage, trailering and the water you use most often. A shallow-draft bay boat may suit island and inshore trips, while a center console with more freeboard may be the better choice for regular nearshore use.

Account for local conditions

Wind, tide, chop and rapidly changing weather matter. Consider deadrise, fuel capacity, shade, livewell needs and electronics as part of the complete package—not just the hull length.
